Mid-Summer Night's Love

Description

Well... This is another of those 'artistic' pieces of mine... I've been trying REALLY hard lately to get better at the general look of my shading and what not, but I'm just so much better at making linearts than coloring... At least I think so anyway...

The tree looks weird, the flowers stand out too much, the fairies lack depth and don't glow enough... I could have done so much better, but I was also experimenting, too... So, I guess it's not so bad...

This was kind of a gift for :iconblusilvrpaladin: as well, as the red fairy is his character, Martin. The blue one is mine, Kiki. These are character's we've had for upwards of ten years, and are some that are very near and dear to our hearts, as not only have we had them a very long time, but they're also completely original.

Anyway, most of the details have probably gotten lost, and I think it's too busy, but either way, here it is. Martin and Kiki, enjoying one another on their honeymoon one Summer evening.

Note: The reason for two moons is the fact that the world they're from has three moons. They never hold the same phase at the same time.

I might put it into the calender I'm working on.

***UPDATE JULY 29TH***

I made the image resolution a little higher, so people could get decent sized prints, if they like.

Many thanks to :iconredheadstock:, :iconseiyastock:, :iconel-chupacabras:, :icondifferentxdreamz:, :iconproject-gimpbc:, and Obsidian Dawn [link] for their brushes. Whenever I use brushes, I use theirs!

Update: See the animated version here!

***The short story***

They were finally married. After all their time being friends and knowing one another; after her being there for him through all of his trials and tribulations, they were finally married.

Martin had decided that living his life as a fairy would be better, given their situation, and Kiki couldn't be happier. They had a simple ceremony; Kiki glowed extra brightly that evening with anticipation and excitement as Martin seemed generally calm--on the outside.

But as they stood before the fullest moon of new Earth, he felt his resolve slip. He loved Kiki, but this would make wife number three for him.

Being a RealmDrifter, he never aged, never died. His first wife had driven herself insane and then went missing after he left her, which caused him a moment of pause. His second wife, he had for thousands of years before she finally died of old age. He would miss her...

But Kiki had all the promise of any fae--she would live forever, and it seemed to be a perfect match. He loved her spirited, playful personality. And whereas it was slightly bothersome from time to time, he knew that in his fairy form, he would take on more of their characteristics and eventually learn to accept her over zealousness.

He was going to leave it all behind. His home was much too big for two fae to live in happily, and besides, his grandchildren could make better use of it. As for his family; they didn't really need him anymore. He would make sure to visit from time to time, but his children were all grown, as were his grandchildren. He felt it was time to let them live their lives as a normal family. He would have been dead by now, if he had been but a man. And in years gone past, Andrew and Nikka would be around somewhere, being Dhampeal. He would find them when need be.

But for now, he had other things to focus on. Happy things. Before he knew it, they were wed, and flying around happily through the forests of Elonwie.

It was a beautiful Mid-Summer night, and along with the fullest moon were the other two moons of new Earth. One twinkled with the sort of character only a crescent can, and the other glowed, offering it's half moon light to aide in the brightness of the evening.

Aside from the lovely sounds of the warm evening, the forest was still. A croak from a frog, or the chirping of crickets were the only sounds, aside from their happy laughter.

Kiki, as usual, was flying faster than any man's eyes could ever follow, leaving the semi-inexperienced flyer, Martin, to only call at her back--until she cried out in fear and surprise.

When he caught up to her, she was tangled in a large spider web; the arachnid in question watching her and seeming to lie in wait for her to calm her violent struggle.

"Marty, help me!" She bellowed, afraid for the large spider's intentions. Her blue glow stood out like a beam of light in the spider's homr, making the entire web seem almost alive.

Sighing and shaking his head, Martin flew up to his bride, using his RealDrifter magics to make quick work of her predicament, even taking a moment to fix the web before they flew away.

Flying much slower now, the young, blue fae seemed a bit distraught still over having been within the small animal's trap.

"I tried to tell you not to fly so fast around here, Kiki. There are spider webs everywhere." Martin reiterated his earlier warning, but this only seemed to make the tiny fae upset.

"Are you saying it's my fault I got stuck in that web??" She asked, stopping her flight to hover before him, furrowing her brows deeply.

Seeming hesitant, the man then just sighs, putting out his hands helplessly. "Well, you -were- flying pretty fast, and--"

"Oouugh!" She all but growled at him before speeding off, her flight pattern erratic, telling of her anger, and leaving Martin to only be able to put out his arms as he flew as straightly at her back.

"Kiki..!"
